TAMBOUR D'AFRIQUE TONIGHT...JALOUSIE

TUNE INTO TAMBOUR D'AFRIQUE TONIGHT AT 10 PM EST @ WWW.RADIOTRIOMPHE.COM

Until then enjoy this video. This is the world reknowned Haitian Kompas band Tabou Combo singing their hit Jalousie on live television in Haiti. Guy has played this song on the show several times. Its special because they sing in Kreyol and Lingala on this song and it sounds (to me anyway lol) like a Haitian interpretation of Congolese rumba. Makes for a very unique blend. Enjoy.

Werrason & Wenge Musica Maison Mere - Diego Music

Diego Music is from what I understand is a production company that works with Werrason. This song is a dedication. Fabrice (the one who takes lead on this one) has a style that reminds me very rap or dancehall influenced. I really love it. He's joined by the rest of Maison Mere for one of the lead singles from Techno Malewa Sans Cesse which was released this summer to rave reviews.
The album continues to do well.

TUNE INTO TAMBOUR D'AFRIQUE TONIGHT, 10PM -12AM @ WWW.RADIOTRIOMPHE.COM

In the meantime listen to this Fally Ipupa song called '5eme Race'. I completely LOVE this song and I wish he would have done a video for it. It's really nice.

Flamme Kapaya in the Generique "Surprise"

Took a while to get it but a Generique is when the 'rumba' is left out and the whole song is one long Sebene section. I really enjoy this one by Flamme Kapaya feat. Bill Clinton Kalonji

TAMBOUR D'AFRIQUE TONIGHT B/W KIN PIRACY DUB

I go by a lotta names lol my family knows me as Stacey, the Tambour d'Afrique fans know me as Ms Bazu but my stage name is Sha-Mecca. Just as my different names and Haitian/Congolese background suggest (and I guess my zodiac sign of Gemini as well) I am a person with many sides. I love many genres of music and love to blend these different sides of myself and allow them to influence the music I make as well. Over the past month or so I've been working on a music project that is basically a showcase of me blending a few sides of myself.

I've always loved Dancehall music and in recent years I fell in love with the music of my mother's homeland (Congolese Rumba). I had the idea to mix the two a while back but it wasn't until a few weeks ago that I discovered exactly how I would blend the two so that it would appeal to a wide range of people. I hope to bridge the gap between Africa and certain points in the Caribbean. The project that would help me do this is called "Kin Piracy Dub" and I would love to share it with you all. I hope you all enjoy it, feed back is appreciated! TUNE INTO TAMBOUR D'AFRIQUE TONIGHT @ 10pm WWW.RADIOTRIOMPHE.COM BLESS...

Werrason and his team of singers release a new album "Sans Cesse" today. I've heard one track from the album so far (thanks to Youngz Baron @ Vibes D'Afrique Forums) entitled "Diego Music"

DIEGO MUSIC - TELECHARGEMENT/DL

I look forward to hearing the rest. I really enjoy Werra's new talent who were first introduced on Werrason & Wenge Musica Maison Mere's last album "Mayi Ya Sika/Temps Pressnt", Fabrice, Deplik (who can be called a baby Fally Ipupa) and Cafe Rhum. They have a whole lot of personality. When the songs are good they're great.

TAMBOUR D'AFRIQUE TONIGHT

Today the United States celebrates it's independence from Great Britain. Black people were enslaved at the time so that part of the celebration I really don't care for because we still seek true independence. For me it's another day/excuse to get together with family and enjoy good food and great times. People can take that as an un-American sentiment or whatever. That's fine. Just make sure you enjoy your day and
every day of your life. Remember the importance of family and love above all.

Anyway tune into Tambour d'Afrique 10pm EST tonight @ www.radiotriomphe.com

Goodbye Michael...

I'm still in shock. Yesterday we lost the greatest artist of our time and possibly the greatest entertainer of ALL time. Undoubtedly the most influential artst of MY lifetime. No star has shined brighter on this earth. I spent a great deal of my childhood immersed in his music and videos. Discovering the Jackson 5 in the 5th grade when "The Jacksons: An American Dream" aired on ABC I fell in love with him all over again. I gained a greater appreciation for the megastar who by then was already considered a freakshow by the world. I was one of the few kids who still openly loved Michael Jackson when most people my age had abandoned him for gangster rap.

There are so many memories I have connected to this man's existence. From crying and cowering to my room when my parents would play Thriller when i was 3 to seeing Motown 25 on a vhs my parents kept (for the longest I didn't realize that Motown 25 aired when I was only a year old) to singing his songs in the mirror for hours, emulating his moves and vocal stylings. When I found out you could actually buy old music on cd (lol) I would buy a Jackson 5 or Michael Solo album from his motown days and listen and listen and listen. I learned to sing singing along to Michael Jackson. I have easily seen 'The Legend Continues', 'Moonwalker' & 'The Making of Thriller' over 100 times each, no exaggeration. Whenever he appeared on television for a special or a video premier we would have a VHS ready to record. When his popularity in the U.S died down he continued to be watched and admired by me and other family members.

I was born in '82. So I literally can't remember a time in which Michael Jackson wasn't the biggest star in the world because in my life there is no such time. His super stardom was normal to me in that I didn't know anything else. Michael Jackson was the like the God of music and I had just accepted all the things that came with his fame as normal. I didn't know that being such a huge star could literally kill you inside. Could make you a prisoner of your own destiny. It wasn't until later in life that I realized that Michael's life was unnatural. I find it unfortunate that a lot of people can not grasp this concept. All he did as a human being was try to cope with a very unnatural state of being. It makes one wonder if ANYONE could ever handle that level of stardom and if it is worth it to be that famous. Every parable concerning the price of fame has crossed my mind since yesterday. The sad part is he was that big of a star because he deserved to be. His popularity was in direct correlation with his talent. He was larger than life. I just really hope he finally found the peace that he so longed for and deserved.

Right now I can only say thank you. Thank you Michael for baring your heart and soul on every song you sang and on every stage you ever set foot on. Thank you for all the music. For all the memories. Thank you for everything you gave of yourself just so I could dream.

R.I.P...

Born to amuse, to inspire, to delight
here one day, gone one night
Like the sunset dying with the rising of the moon
GONE TOO SOON...

KWAMY vs FRANCO

06 TABU LEY & KWAMY MUNSI et L'AFRICAN FIESTA - FAUX MILLIONAIRE

KWAMY MUNSI formally of OK JAZZ joins l'African Fiesta after a disagreement with FRANCO. On this song he claims the FRANCO is not as wealthy as he allegedly claims and goes around writing bad checks.

07 FRANCO & TP OK - CHICOTTE

FRANCO responds to KWAMY MUNSI'S claims with the song CHICOTTE (a chicotte is a type of whip). FRANCO speaks to KWAMY like a wayward child and reminds him that he created him and he can still "whip" him! At the end of the song SIMARRO LUTUMBA explains exactly where the beef started. KWAMY asked FRANCO for a new truck and when FRANCO refused he left OK JAZZ and wrote the song FAUX MILLIONAIRE. SIMARRO explains that it is only right that FRANCO respond with this song because KWAMY was spreading lies about the same person who gave him life as a performer.

08 FRANCO & TP OK JAZZ - COURSE AU POUVIOR

This is another song directed @ KWAMY. COURSE AU POUVIOR means "The road to power" roughly translated. Later KWAMY MUNSI would return to OK JAZZ as a vocalist.

Biloko Ngeli Ngeli...

I don't know what the weather is like where you are but here in NY it is finally hot outside! After a long winter it's hard to not get excited when unseasonably warm weather comes around. I love music all year around of course, but for some reason its much more enjoyable in nice weather.

Which brings me to the song I was just listening to. It was written by my late great uncle Matima Mpiosso of Zaiko Langa Langa and it is called "Kin Kiesse". This song just reminds me of good times and sunny days like today. Kin Kiesse means sweet Kinshasa. The song was written in homage to the golden era of prosperity that then Zaire was going through at the time. "Biloko Ngeli Ngeli" every thing shiny, everything good. I want to dedicate this song to everyone feeling good about life and to Matima Mpiosso who would have been 58 this year on April 14th (He passed away May 26th 1996). Here is the live from Ghana version off the "Zaiko-Ghana" album released in 1976.

Sunday Videos...

Last night's episode of Tambour d'Afrique and Part I to the Zaiko Langa Langa Special will be posted later today. Until then enjoy these videos...

Young singers for Werrason's new movement Temps Present aka Mayi Ya Sika, (L to R) Fabrice, Cafe Rhoum & Deplik
I look forward to hearing them on record:

Le Poete Lutumba Simarro celebrated his 71st birthday recently. Last year he threw a big party for his 70th birthday in Kinshasa. Alain Mpela takes Djo Mpoyi's place and sings Lutumba's hit KADIMA. He really does the song justice.

Now watch Djo Mpoyi bless the song live. He left that show with a lot of money lol
His voice is amazing.

RIP Alpatchino

I just found out while browsing Vibes d'Afrique that solo artist, atakulu Alpatchino passed away in Kinshasa on February 16 of kidney failure. He was only 36 years old. He is rumored to have attempted suicide by poison at an earlier date, thereby damaging his kidneys to the point of failure.
Once an atakulu for Papa Wemba's Viva La Musica Alpatchino went solo and saw success with the release of "Offensive Generalisee". He will be missed. Bless

I've been having some technical difficulties lately but Tambour d'Afrique still airs every Saturday night 10pm (NY Time) at www.radiotriomphe.com. Tune in Live.

This song playing is called Amour Chiffoner by Celeo Scram. One of my favorite songs right now, I can't stop listening to it. Enjoy.

Meet Afro Soul Singer, Sheryl Gambo

A few weeks ago my father received a press kit in the mail for upcoming Congo-Brazzaville soul artist, Sheryl Gambo. It came with a cd entitled Lemo Yassa. On January 17, Guy played a few songs off of this LP. My favorite tracks are 'Pour Un Petit Rein', 'Elika', 'Mwana Nzesi' & 'Esali Soni'.
Last December she was interviewed by African Loft. Read the interview here: Sheryl Gambo - Congolese Afro Soul Diva on Afro Loft

See her perform her single "Essi Dia" Live:

Awilo Longomba

First time I ever heard of Awilo Longomba was in the late 90s. I forget where she got it from but my mother had a VHS tape of Awilo Longomba's "Coupe' Bibamba". I didn't know until today that this was a duet with Jocelyne Béroard of Kassav. Anyway, I really liked the song, although found his 'rapping' to be rather amusing at certain points. I was able to appreciate it. I didn't think anything of the song for a long time as it wouldn't be until a few years ago that I would explore Congolese music. Today I listened to a few tracks off of his July 2008 release "Super man" and decided to look him up. Come to find out his father was the lead singer and founder of Le Tout Puissant OK Jazz. Read more about him here:

AWILO LONGOMBA BIOGRAPHY: PANAFRICANALLSTARS.COM

It took me a while but I'm a fan. Especially after watching a few of his videos. He has some really great upbeat party music. I love it. He even has a remix to Pamelo Mounka's "L'argent Apelle L'argent" that he performs with singer Barbara Kanam (I need to find out who she is. I feel so behind haha). Watch these videos. Last night's episode of Tambour d'Afrique will be up soon...
