HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM TAMBOUR D'AFRIQUE!!

Pulpit rock

We here at Tambour d'Afrique would like to thank you all for your continued support through our technical difficulties, etc. We've been going strong for four years (as far as the blog) and 5 years on Radio Triomphe and it wouldn't be without the love and support of the fans! Tambour d'Afrique
will only continue to grow in the next year. Please keep this site bookmarked and look out for more updates and commentary from host Guy Angrand himself. Seeing as though I don't have as
much time for the blog anymore he will be making his own updates. It is exciting because then
Tambour d'Afrique will be able to reach more people as he is able to type in French, Kreyol, Lingala AND English!

With the new year approaching we will continue to bring more music, new and old and support Congolese Music on the whole. Thank you again and I hope your holiday has been great and that the New Year brings you great prosperity and cheer!

I will be posting various tracklistings from older shows that we could not record. We hope you all appreciate it as we continue to grow as a website and radio show! PEACE :)

New Tambour d'Afrique Tonight!

Been a while since my last update. I've been working hard on my own music and haven't really had time to sit down and make a thoughtful entry. I will try to do so in the upcoming days. Until then thank you for continuing to support Tambour d'Afrique by tuning in every Saturday night at 10pm (NY EST)@ www.radiotriomphe.com

Check out this video from vocalist Laurette La Perle. Apparently she first made her debut on the scene a year ago with the song "Sans Retour" but she definitely slipped under my radar. Her voice is very very nice. I look forward to her upcoming album "Siska". Watch her video for the song "Femme Amoureuse"

TAMBOUR D'AFRIQUE TONIGHT - MADILU SYSTEM SPECIAL

Three years ago, August 11, 2007, the great vocalist Madilu System passed away, we dedicate tonight's episode of Tambour d'Afrique to him as we are very close to the anniversary of his death. Tonight we celebrate the music he gave us during his life.
Congolese music/rumba is very much about story telling and Madilu was a great story teller. His voice invoked emotion and you felt every word he sang as if it happened to him directly. His POV as a vocalist is definitely missed. RIP MADILU SYSTEM

Tune into Radio Triomphe tonight @ 10pm (NY time) to here this very special episode.

TAMBOUR D'AFRIQUE 06.19.20

I've been struggling with technical difficulties as far as recording the show and also with streaming the show. The music sharing site, imusictweet.com, has suddenly lowered the amount of megabytes one can upload so I can't stream from there anymore. To make up for it I have made a 'video' of the show so that fans can still listen to the show while logged onto the internet. I hope you enjoy this next episode. I also invite you all to listen to Tambour d'Afrique every Saturday night from 10pm to 12am (NY EST) live at www.RadioTriomphe.com

Souci Mady...

I was supposed to post this on Father's Day but the video I made was not complete at the time. I would still like to take the time out to thank ALL the fathers out in the world doing God's work by taking care of their children in a hands on capacity. I would like to of course thank my own father, Guy "Mwana Mboka..Mokonzi Ya Rumba" Angrand, for his role in our (my siblings and I) lives.

Thank you Daddy for always being there!! Thank you for giving us this appreciation for music and showing us the power it has to bring people together! Thank you for giving us a great life and continuing to help us through! We love you! You are an inspiration to us all!! WE LOVE YOU! :)

Now with no further ado, here is the video I made for the song Souci Mady that Guy recorded with Pepe Felly's band Les Yatoupas back in the mid 70s. I hope you all enjoy it. PEACE...

Independence Ya Tabou Combo REPLAY

As you all may know by now I am of Congolese and Haitian heritage. Whenever the two cultures combine there rises an excitement within me that I can not contain!

I have posted the video "Jalosie" a while back which is a Tabou Combo song which mixes Kreyol & Lingala in a sort of Soukous/Kompas style. This song was recorded in the early 80s. 30 years later Tabou Combo has decided to reach back to their Congolese Rumba influence and re-make the classic Grand Kalle hit "Independance Cha-Cha" changing the lyrics to the verses to Haitian Kreyol! It is a beautiful remake.

According to www.microfundo.com (you can read full article HERE) they decided to remake the song because many Francophone African countries gained their independence 50 years ago. This is a proper tribute. Enjoy the song and video it is a true blessing, PEACE!

RIP MAYAULA MAYONI

Last week on Wednesday, May 26th we lost another Congolese music legend. Mayuala Mayoni was a composer and guitarist who has written notable hits for Franco & TP OK Jazz ( "Cherie Bondowe", "Nabali Misere", "Momi", etc), Mpongo Love (her smash hit "Ndaya"), Tshala Muana ("Nasi Nabali" which songstress Meje 30 has remade for the Tshala Muana album "Sikila"; I posted the video yesterday) and much more.

Our friends @ Global Groovers have posted his album "La Machine a Tube" for download. You may find it HERE

He was a great talent whose influence spanned decades. He will be missed. May his soul rest. Enjoy these videos in his honor:

TAMBOUR D'AFRIQUE THE ESSENCE OF CONGOLESE MUSIC

Telechargement/DL: Palmares

Found this song on an album over the weekend. Thank you Global Groove, you're the best!! Please visit their site GlobalGroovers.Blogspot.Com

Anyway it's Tabu Ley & L'Orchestre Afrisa International shouting out different bands from the Congo that had made an impact at or by the time when this song was released. It's a great song and pretty much embodies the spirit of what Tambour d'Afrique is about. The old and the new and always paying hommage. PEACE

More updates coming soon...sit tight...

TRAGEDY STRIKES IN HAITI

By now we all have heard of the 7.2 earthquake that struck Port-au-Prince Tuesday morning. This is an event that has truly touched the whole Haitian community. The deathtoll lurking in the hundreds of thousands people from Miami to Brooklyn to Canada and even here where I live in Spring Valley have all been touched in one way or another by this chain of events. Haiti has suffered for a long time but this is simply a catastrophe of which Haiti has never seen before. We send our prayers out to all who are looking for family and all who are in Haiti right now. Haiti was the first country to free themselves from modern slavery we can not forget her! We can not continue to ignore her. Be careful of which charities you give to. Give whatever you can from clothing to canned goods and money. Anything you can do to help will go a long way.

You can find some charities to donate to here:
HAITI EARTHQUAKE RELIEF

You can text Wyclef Jean's organization "Yele" to 501501 to donate $5 or go to www.YELE.org (Some cell providers won't allow the text so you will have to go to the site)

****AMERICAN AIRLINES HAS DECIDED THAT THEY ARE TAKING NURSES AND DOCTORS OVER TO HAITI FOR FREE. CALL 212 697 9767****

This is a song I did with my brother and a friend of mine (Greg Serenade) a few years ago. An ode to Haiti from the point of view of the diaspora. I personally have never been to Haiti but i don't feel any less Haitian than any other Haitian because the culture was instilled and I wanted to reflect that with this song. The song was produced by my brother Razah (Guy Raoul Jr. ).

Long live the Haitian community. Love, Power, Peace and Strength
